Supervision for counsellors & psychotherapists

A formal contracted supervision agreement to consistently review work to promote effective practice is the cornerstone of effective and sound clinical practice. If you are interested in doing that work with me then I suggest we meet to discuss our mutual expectations and to gauge whether our two approaches could complement each other and create a productive supervisory relationship.

I have worked for Relate as a Clinical Counselling Supervisor since 2015 and as an Accredited MBACP counsellor I work to BACP ethical standards.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner or a student counsellor I aim for a warm, respectful, collaborative approach to the supervisory relationship. I recognise that there needs to be trust built to enable you to explore your work openly, be self-reflective and open to challenge. I understand that the needs of the experienced practitioner will be different to those of the student, but hope that whatever stage you are at in your career, you will feel that our work together contributes to your professional development. The supervision model that I primarily use is a multi-modal approach and I am inevitably influenced by my own theoretical orientation, which integrates systemic, psychodynamic and person-centred theory.

In my Masters dissertation I looked at the impact upon counsellors of working with angry couples. My conclusions note the importance of supervision as a key support for counsellors working with highly emotionally charged clients.
